my new favorite travel companion
We have traveled so much in the past year, I am always looking for ways to simplify the process.
Security at the airport has become so absurd. I am infuriated at the sight of a frail old woman standing in her stocking feet about to pass through the metal detector. And I have lost countless bottles of shampoo, moisturizer, toner, even mascara trying to fudge the 3 oz. liquid rule.
But by this point, I definitely have down my methods for traveling.
The one that thrills me the most recently has been the discovery of the Roots flat bag. I covet the vintage leather, but the one I have is more chocolate-y.
It is such a stylish way to be hands-free.
Okay, I can see that it is a glorified fanny pack. But it’s hip. And sort of earth-y. And it forces me to simplify to the bare necessities, which for me is my wallet, moleskin, phone, and camera. And lip gloss. The perfect size.
I’ve worn it all over the US in the past few months, and find it sort of a pain to adjust to a real purse once I’m home. Maybe I should just purchase the best colors and and be done with purses? No, thanks.
I think it would make a great gift for that hard-to-shop-for-yet-worldly person.

Classy, chic, and practical - just like you. ;)
I understand that one must have a moleskin(e ?) to be a proper writer/artist. It's on the Christmas list this year.

Why do you resist the great Hobo International bags? Nice long over-the-shoulder strap. Strong magnets that pick up a fork in a restaurant (kind of embarrassing as you walk out with a fork stuck to your purse). You make fun of mine and call it a tourist bag!
